Goose – Unidentified

The head markings are similar to a juvenile Barnacle Goose, but the beak colour is wrong. Of those geese I’ve looked at that have a similar coloured beak, none of them have those head markings. It’s a conundrum….but one I’m sure someone on WordPress will be able to answer:

Marwick Head

Marwick Head in the parish of Sandwick on Orkney’s Mainland is an RSPB Reserve centred around a spectacular vertical sea-cliff. It is also home to the Kitchener Memorial, a stone tower erected after World War 1 to commemorate Minister of War, Field Marshall Lord Kitchener of Khartoum who died on 5th June 1916. He was on board HMS Hampshire bound for Russia when it struck a German mine off Marwick Head and sank with very few survivors.
