Ness Gardens Photo Competition – Summer

Fresh from my recent success in the Spring round of the 2012 Ness Gardens Photo Competition, which you can read about here, I thought I would share with you the two photos I’ve decided to enter into the Summer round:

A Damselfly clinging to a leaf

I think this is a moth…and not a butterfly

If these two photos look familiar that’s because I have posted them before – see here – in a more general post about Ness Gardens.

In the next few weeks, when the leaves have really started to turn, I’ll head down to Ness Gardens again to take shots for the final round of the competition: Autumn – my favourite season…:0)

A Quick Trip To Ness

Last weekend we decided to take a quick trip to Ness Gardens to enjoy some long overdue summer sunshine.

I didn’t grab many shots, because we were only there for about an hour, but here are a few of the ones I did capture.

I’m quite chuffed with these 4 shots, because they were all taken hand-held with my 100mm macro lens. Close-up work isn’t easy at the best of times, but when you’re taking moving subjects, outside and hand-held, virtually everything is working against you. Pin sharp macro is only really possible when you have the camera locked-off on a tripod and you take your subject indoors where you can control the environment.
