Twelfth Night

In honour of Twelfth Night, the traditional end of the festive period and the night by which all Christmas decorations should be taken down, here is a mixed gallery of images from Lincoln Christmas Market and the Christmas Lanterns at Chester Zoo…..it’s all about the lights:

Merry Christmas

A few images of traditional Christian iconography from Lincoln Cathedral – Merry Christmas to all my fellow WordPress bloggers. Thanks for all the support throughout 2018.

Let’s hope that in 2019 the world can start to pull together and put an end to the divisiveness and mistrust.

Merry Christmas

I just wanted to say, at this festive time of year, thanks so much to all those people who visited, followed, liked and commented on my photoblog during 2013. I really do enjoy sharing my work with you all, I find your positive feedback and kind words a constant source of support and inspiration 😊

As Liz and I are up on Orkney for Christmas, the first time we have been away for the festive period in 13 years of marriage, it seems appropriate that I share with you a shot from the trip. So, below is a close-up image of a wood-carving of an angel from St Magnus’ Cathedral in Kirkwall:

Merry Christmas everyone, wherever you are and whoever you’re with, I hope you have a great time, but most of all take care and best wishes.

Festive Birmingham

Last weekend we travelled down to Birmingham to spend sometime with good friends of ours before Christmas. Whilst we were there we visited Birmingham Cathedral; strolled round the Christmas Market and did a little bit of shopping. Below are just a few shots from the trip:

Chances are that this will be my last post before Christmas, so I just wanted to wish all my fellow WordPressers a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year…..:0)

Flying Angels

As it’s nearly Christmas…..:0)…..I thought you might like to see a couple of experimental creative shots of one of our decorations:

Flying Angels 1

Flying Angels 2

I’m no Physicist, but I assume the way this works is that the heat from the candle creates a thermal that rises upwards, which in turn catches the “blades” at the top of the ornament causing them (and the Angels which dangle down) to spin round.

For both shots I used my 100mm Macro lens locked-off on a tripod and then simply experimented with different combinations of light, background, aperture and shutter-speed until I discovered a “look” that I liked.

I enjoyed doing these, so you might find that I post more Christmas themed shots over the next couple of weeks…
