No I hadn’t heard of them either……..:0). Apparently they are closely related to the Elephant…….go figure! They inhabit large areas of Central/Southern Africa and parts of the Arabian Peninsula:

Not the sharpest shot ever, and arguably the shutter-speed should have been faster, but there is something about this that I quite like:

The head markings are similar to a juvenile Barnacle Goose, but the beak colour is wrong. Of those geese I’ve looked at that have a similar coloured beak, none of them have those head markings. It’s a conundrum….but one I’m sure someone on WordPress will be able to answer:
