Castle Fraser

Completed around 1636, Castle Fraser is one of the finest examples of a Scottish baronial tower house:

I was surprised to see an Oystercatcher so far inland (Castle Fraser is miles from the coast) but apparently it’s quite common.

Balmoral: The River Dee

The River Dee flows through the Balmoral Estate as it meanders its way from its source in the Cairngorm Mountains to its estuary at Aberdeen. The area around Balmoral is known as Royal Deeside, because of its association between the Royal Family and the river:

Balmoral

Arguably one of the most famous buildings in the UK, Balmoral (and it’s 50,000 acre Estate in the Scottish Highlands) has been the private residence of the British Royal Family ever since it was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1848.

St Cyrus Bay

A misty St Cyrus Bay on the border between Aberdeenshire and Angus. It was still fairly warm and the sunshine and blue sky occasionally made an appearance, but the mist rolling in off the North Sea made for an unusual and eerie couple of hours on the beach:
