Winter Woods In Abstract

We went for a walk around Storeton Woods earlier today, to take some shots of the wintry conditions here on the Wirral.

I thought it was a perfect opportunity to have another go at the “vertical panning” technique I first posted about here.

I’m really quite pleased with the way these have turned-out. I think the muted colours and ghostly “blur” add to the stark wintry feel.

I’ve used this technique several times and I’ve even sold one of my photos using this technique to a medical clinic in my community. I’ve been asked how I created my images because it looks so unique, and yet it’s simple and fun to do. My favorite of your series is number 1 and 3. I like the feeling of isolation and loneliness they create. Also the perspective is the best on those two with defined leading lines. Your eye follows completely down the trail. I’d like # 2 better if just the person in the foreground was there and not the people in the back. The unique tree shape add nice motion but the back ground people just block your eye from going further into this adventure. Too bad we just can’t tell people to get out of the way. :-). This is a fun series and I’m glad you encouraged people to try it. Thanks Mark.

Thanks for the comment and kind words, it is a fun technique and I would encourage everyone to give it a go, because it really is very simple. I actually posted some similar images at http://wp.me/p2sEYy-sR if you’re interested.

Hi there this is kinda of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

I have little coding experience either. WordPress.com make it very easy to get started. It’s just like using a basic word-processing package – you just type, format and publish. You can use HTML code if you want, but you don’t have to.
